About Homebase
Homebase is an employee scheduling, time tracking and communications tool for businesses and their employees within industries such as retail, hospitality and health and beauty. The platform aims to automate and streamline employee scheduling and time tracking by providing features such as team calendars, time clocks, automatic notifications and budget forecasting.
In order to assist users in building interactive and flexible team schedules, Homebase provides a Gantt chart calendar view with a drag and drop interface. Employers can view the schedule by role, time period or employee to ensure that there are no errors and that costs add up. Once complete, the schedule can be put on autopilot mode to automatically carry over to the following weeks or months, taking into account staff availability and holidays. Schedules can be sent out to employees within the Homebase app and synced with mobile calendars so that reminders can be sent.
Using Homebase’s time tracking tools, users can track hours worked and integrate with their payroll system for automatic timesheet export and wage calculation. The time clock feature allows employees to clock in and out of shifts, as well as track breaks and overtime by signing in with a secure PIN number from their mobile device. Managers automatically receive alerts for absences or lateness, and are able to write notes to inform other managers of incidents or daily summaries via the manager log.
With Homebase hiring, you can find quality candidates fast. Post to the top online job boards for free in under a minute with direct integrations and pre-written job descriptions.

Overall, we are happy with it! We were using paper time cards for everyone, so this is a huge improvement for us!
Pros
It has a really easy interface for everyone to clock in and out with their passwords when they start and end their shifts. It also allows all our employees to download an app to their phone that will remind them to clock in/out and also will tell them how much they made that day! Love that.
Cons
As an administrator it doesn't allow me to schedule a shift for my employees and have them clock in and out for their lunch or breaks. In order to account for lunch break, the only way to do it is to do multiple shifts for that person for the day. That part is kind of annoying, but not a deal breaker. It is also not an easy interface to use templates from previous weeks or rename then. It says you can do it once the schedule is published, but it doesn't direct you to there once you have done so.

Years of working with Homebase have shown that they constantly improve their product, and make it easier to use with integrations with common applications (via API access).
Pros
Quite honestly, one of the first things I recommend to businesses that want to schedule employees and know their labor costs that are up to the minute.
Cons
The one feature that I do wish was available, would be a calendar view that showed the entire department or business, so that it could be displayed on a monitor or web-based application.
Reasons for Choosing Homebase
The integration with Square POS and ease of use made it a reasonable switch. After years of use, I don't know if I would go back.Switched From

Homebase seemed to offer a solid free version, that makes it easier to implement with a client before showing them the added advantages of a premium plan.- Industry: Food & Beverages

Cafe Scheduling

It was a fine experience. It just wasn’t a fit for us.
It was a fine experience. It just wasn’t a fit for us.
Pros
Ease of use and user interface was the cleanest. We switched to Square Shifts because of the price at the time and the easy integration with square payroll. But Homebase looks much better and is easier to use for the person creating the schedule.
Cons
Price and that I didn’t have much trust in Homebase’s payroll. We switched to square because it was more trust worthy in our opinion. Whether that is a correct assumption or not, I don’t know.

Scheduling issues
Reviewed on 25/11/2020
Pros
Two months ago, I would have given this software 5 stars all around. I think the software is easy to use and loved that I was unable to schedule my staff during their approved request off time.
Cons
The last 2 months have been a huge scheduling struggle. First, when my staff requested off, it would only show the amount of hours on the schedule builder, not the actual times I had to go look up the request off times every week for everyone and write them down to make sure I didn't schedule at times they couldn't work. This was very time consuming. For the last two weeks, the times my staff is requesting off is not what shows up on my schedule builder. Example, [SENSITIVE CONTENT HIDDEN] requested off the evening shift this Saturday, Nov 28th. It showed up on the schedule builder that I approved a request off for the day shift. This has been a huge issue It has taken me so much longer to produce a schedule and I have had to work a lot of shifts that my employees requested off and could not get covered. I am extremely frustrated and am considering looking for other scheduling app options if this situation doesn't get fixed soon. I understand technical issues can occur during updates, but for 2 months?
