AutoCAD

About AutoCAD
AutoCAD is a 2D and 3D design and drafting platform for architects, engineers, construction professionals, field technicians and contractors, which supports 2D drafting, drawing and annotation tools, alongside 3D modeling and visualization technology. With native iOS and Android mobile apps, AutoCAD also gives users the flexibility to view, create, edit and share drawings on the go, via any smartphone or tablet.
AutoCAD’s 2D drafting, drawing, and annotation tools allow users to manage text settings, smart dimensioning, and leaders, as well as tables, layouts, fields and more. The 3D modeling and visualization tools enable users to manage solid, surface and mesh modeling, 3D navigation, and visual styles, alongside photorealistic rendering, 3D scanning, point clouds, and more.
Collaboration tools such as PDF and DGN import/export, 3D model import, geographic location information and online maps allow users to share and reuse data, as well as add location information into a drawing. To streamline the design workflow, AutoCAD includes ribbon tabs and panels, tool palettes, multifunctional grips, dynamic blocks, and more. Other key features include external file references, object selection and text to Mtext enhancements.
AutoCAD’s mobile app tools allow users to create, edit and mark-up drawings, as well as measure accurately while working remotely on site. Users can also access multi-touch zoom, advanced drawing tools, such as arc and offset, as well as manage layers and blocks. A simple design feed allows users to provide updates for team with notes, photos and feedback on project progress.

Engineering and Machining with AutoCAD

I really like AutoCAD because it allows me to create drawings for my machine shop and helps the machinist see exactly what needs to be done with visual dimensions. Our machinists love the program because they say it's easy to illustrate an idea and it allows them to convert to many different files. Our customers love it because they are able to see the final product in visual before starting any work.
Pros
What I like most about AutoCAD is the ability to create blueprints for architectural designs and create 3D images of an engineering product / idea.
Cons
What I like least about AutoCAD is the difficulty to use and lack of help available within the program.

As an advertising agency, We use AutoCAD mostly to create concepts of new products for our clients to study the feasibility of bringing them to the market.
Generally, our clients perceive the designs to be on the accurate side.
The process of managing the design from start to finish is highly streamlined in terms of assigning roles and quality control.
Pros
The most important feature for us using AutoCAD is the high precision and detailed approach to making concepts and models for potential products to pitch to our clients.
Even though we don't use this software as close to its full potential, it helped us convey ideas into realistic 3D models instead of pitching them in the form of words.
Cons
I think the number one con for our particular use is the learning curve. We always needed 3rd party freelancers to assist with the projects. I think they can perhaps create a light version that requires less engineering knowledge and that has more features to assist with designs.
Also, it can be hardware-demanding when dealing with rendering a complex design.

It has been great. I have been using this software since 2021 and upgraded to AutoCAD 2023 version last year and it has helped me work on my facility layout projects with ease and better use of the functional capabilities.
Pros
the new updates on the AutoCAD are really easy to navigate through and understand even for first time users. I feel like the files have a better and faster interactive support which helps open them up faster.
Cons
Still some glitches which causes me to close entire application before I can work back normally.
